Ti Dix Ten: March
I can barely believe it's already April! March was bookended by trips across Europe and quality time with friends. But between the two travel weeks, I also had some terrific times here in Copenhagen as well. I haven't found much time to write recently because I've been kept quite busy by all that moving around, and class work when here. And I am only going to be more busy in April, what with my upcoming Long Study Tour and approaching finals. As the semester progresses and the end draws ever nearer, I feel increasing pressure to see and do everything on my bucket lists. To quickly catch up on this past month, here is my third installment of Ti Dix Ten: 10 in Danish, French and English, about my 10 favorite small moments, 10 favorite photos taken in the past month, within and beyond Copenhagen's 10 districts. It's a good exercise in reflecting on what I have managed to see and do while here, and put aside the thoughts of the upcoming end.
1) Sunny Sunday in Nyhavn
It was such a bright and sunny day, everyone seemed to be out and about. I went for a long walk with a friend along the Nyhavn canals and enjoyed the sunshine.
2) St. Patrick's Day Parade
I went to the St. Patrick's Day parade, which while small, included bag pipes, Irish jig dancing and and plenty of green.
Here is my friend Jess, perfectly encapsulating the mood of the day.
3) Faces Places at CPH:DOX
I went to go see Faces Places with the DIS Film Club, showing at the Grand Theater as part of CPH:DOX, the Copenhagen Documentary festival. I have been wanting to see this documentary by artist Agnès Varda and muralist JR for a while now, and I absolutely loved it! Varda and JR travel through small towns of France, which reminded me of my summers in France. Plus the Grand Theater itself is quite beautiful, which was a bonus.
4) Street Trampolines
On a walk around town I stumbled onto street trampolines I had yet to discover. Here is my friend Catherine bouncing away. The danes sure love their trampolines!
5) Statens Museum for Kunst
I visited the Statens Museum for Kunst with my Art History class and wow do they have a beautiful collection! Not only do they have a terrific selection of art works, they are displayed beautifully. Here is Matisse and his wife, two famously fauvist portraits.
6) ALICE Visual Concert
For one of our LLC events this month, we attended a Visual Concert at ALICE, a art and music venue. We saw a set by Lolina and Astrid Sonne. It was very intersting to watch and to hear!
7) Skillet cookie
My housemates baked a skillet cookie, and we all dove in and stuffed our faces. We then crawled onto the couch and four of us lay under one blanket, Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory grandparents style. Made for a very hygge evening.
8) Bastards Cafe with my host sister
My host sister took me to Bastards Café, which is a café whose walls are filled with boardgames one can borrow and play. It was a fun place to spend an afternoon and play a few rounds of games- at which she beat me repeatedly.
9) Concert at the Trinitatis Church
I stumbled into this concert by coincidence, ran into a friend, and was offered a free glass a wine. How's that for a fortunate turn of events?
10) Beautiful snow fall
While I was upset with the lasting cold at first, the snow fall and light dusting was too gorgeous for me to stay mad for long!
