CLÉO CHARPANTIER
My first camera was a red plastic Fischer Price Toy camera, a gift from my aunt for my 3rd birthday. It was big chunky red plastic box with a big flower lens cover and a two eyed view finder like binoculars. I brought it with me everywhere, as if it were a stuffed animal. My second camera was a little digital pint and shoot. It was bright blue and made an obnoxious loud noise whenever a picture was taken. My third camera was a Nikon_Coolpix P80. I used it a school dances as an escape from the sticky dance floor and awkward snack table conversations. My fourth camera was a Canon PowerShot. Through its lens, every small detail took on a new beautiful light. And then my aunt gave me her old film camera. A beautiful, heavy, Nikon 9. Using film taught me to look in a different way. I became to be more careful about what I photographed, more picky, more specific. I became more interested in the process of creating photographs. Since I’ve started using film my love of photography has doubled because of my understanding of its process. This website is a testimony to that love for film photography.
I'm currently a junior at Occidental college in Los Angeles, where I am majoring in Philosophy. I grew up living in San Francisco and spending the summers in France.
